"Graffiti on a wall, Art as a storyteller. Each line and color carries hidden truths,
giving voice to struggles, triumphs, and connection."
We often assume we know someone within the first few seconds of meeting them. We scan their appearance, their demeanor, their title, and in two or three seconds, we think we’ve figured them out. But here’s the truth: we’re almost never right.
Recently, I spoke with a woman who, on the surface, seemed to have it all together. She was successful, well put-together, and carried herself with confidence. From the outside, you’d assume she was happy and fulfilled. But as she opened up, she revealed something entirely different. Behind her “exterior package,” she was struggling with panic attacks, financial instability, and relationships that left her feeling lost.
Not long after, I met someone very different, a person living with permanent disabilities, who had endured trauma and illness that would bring most people to their knees. And yet, despite all the challenges, they continue to move forward with strength and resilience. From the outside, you might assume their life was unbearably difficult. But their story told a deeper truth: one of courage, perseverance, and quiet determination.
These conversations reminded me why telling our stories matters so deeply. When we keep them locked inside, they weigh us down. But when we speak them out loud, something shifts. Sharing helps us process our journey, honor how far we’ve come, and sometimes, it becomes a seed passed along until it lands with the exact person who needed to hear it most.
Our stories are more than memories. They are bridges that connect us, reminders that no one is truly alone, and sparks that ignite courage in others.
Take a moment today to reflect on your own story:
What part of your journey have you kept silent?
What turning point shaped you into who you are today?
Who is the safe person you could share a piece of your story with?
And if speaking it feels too vulnerable right now, what would it look like to simply write it down for yourself?
Your story matters. Not the polished version you think the world wants to hear but the real one, with its struggles, triumphs, and truths.
So whether it’s a whisper to a trusted friend, a journal entry, or the courage to speak your truth out loud know this: your story matters not only freeing you but you never know what could spark in another to feel more seen, understood and less alone.
